Rugged Tablets for Emergency Rescue Operations

In a fire, information is the scarcest resource. Thick smoke cuts visibility, concrete and steel break radio coverage, and the commander has to decide in minutes from a picture assembled out of different crews, sensors and systems.

Shenzhen Rongsheng Intelligent Equipment builds rescue systems, and its emergency response platform needed a terminal able to run large-scale 3D modelling software while connecting imaging systems, vital-sign detectors and positioning devices. The platform runs on the TERVEX I10J, a 10.1-inch Windows rugged tablet.

Challenge: Dense Smoke, Unstable Networks and Signal Interference

High temperature and smoke cause poor visibility, network communication is unstable, and equipment is susceptible to interference.

The terminal also has to work with a group of connected devices - handheld positioning units, imaging systems, vital-sign detectors - in an environment where losing the connection is a safety issue, not an inconvenience.

Solution: I10J Tablets with 3D Modelling and Self-Organising Networks

The I10J runs the customer's large-scale 3D modelling software and is deployed together with handheld positioning devices, imaging systems, vital sign detectors and other emergency rescue equipment.

The terminal uses self-organising networks, the 4G public network and 5G narrowband IoT with multi-channel automatic switching, so it adapts to complex rescue environments and improves the survivability of the whole system.

Data collected in the field is sent back to the backend, where the on-site situation is simulated in the 3D modelling software - enabling a more accurate judgement of the rescue situation and a better rescue plan.

Functions such as AI identity recognition and audio transmission support the emergency workflow.

Multi-channel automatic switching is what keeps the data path open: if one network degrades in a complex rescue environment, the terminal moves to another channel without the operator stopping to reconfigure anything.

Results: Clear Images and Vital Signs Where Visibility Fails

The customer's thermal imaging system and 3D modelling software, combined with the I10J rugged tablet, output high-definition on-site images and vital sign information even in thick smoke and insufficient light.

The tablet measures distance and positions accurately, compensates for blind spots in the field of view, supports precise rescue, and switches networks automatically while transmitting data efficiently.

IP65 dust and water resistance and operation from -20°C to 60°C mean the terminal withstands high temperature, moisture, dust, impact and falls at a fire emergency site.

FAQ

The I10J runs the customer's 3D modelling software with multi-channel automatic switching across self-organising networks, 4G and 5G narrowband IoT, so modelling and communications continue in a complex rescue environment.

The I10J is IP65 rated and operates from -20°C to 60°C, with a high-definition high-brightness screen, and works with the customer's thermal imaging system for smoke-filled scenes.

Handheld positioning devices, imaging systems and vital sign detectors connect through the tablet's rich I/O, which is why the I10J was chosen as the platform terminal.
